Modern Matrimony, as seen in Dainty Obsessions

This beautiful modern wedding inspiration editorial shoot was featured in the last issue of Dainty Obsessions (Fall/Winter), and we’re finally getting around to sharing it here on our blog! We LOVED this shoot so much! Not only was the venue perfection, but the color palette was fantastic! Creating the design was super fun. We mixed so many unique textures and elements to create something really contemporary, modern and vibrant.  There is a misconception that modern sometimes means devoid of color, but that couldn’t be less true in our experience!

First, let’s talk about the florals. Oh. My.Goodness!  First, this bouquet was incredibly unique. The variety in color & texture gave the garden style bouquet incredible dimension, and it was oh so swoon worthy. Any bouquet that includes peonies or orchids tends to make us fall in love but paired with thistle, greenery, hyacinth and scabiosa; it was over the top amazing.

Second, let’s talk about the attire!  The two ballgown style wedding gowns were so lovely. The addition of the gold sash to the one shoulder silk, ivory gown was stunning.  And dress number two in black had us awestruck. The exquisite texture and modernized sweetheart neckline were striking.   For the groom, a modern navy blue suit paired beautifully with the ivory gown (and loved the floral patterned bowtie for a fun twist). And a tie-less black tux was an on-point pairing for the black gown.

Third, let’s talk about the yarn! What a FUN design element to incorporate. We had a custom yard backdrop created for the ceremony, as well as a multi-color yarn chandelier to hang over the guest table. It was as far from traditional as you could get and added whimsy to the overall design.

Last, we can’t leave without noting the super cool copper chairs, acrylic menu cards, and funky patterned linen runner. Although each element was a slightly eclectic choice individually, it tied together more beautifully that we initially anticipated! And, we can’t forget to mention that our ever faithful, and adorable, mascot, Mila only added to the awesomeness of the shoot. We love her so!

Which element is your favorite? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave us a comment!

Rosetree Wedding | Haley & Matt’s Hope Glen Farm Reception, As Seen in The Knot Mn

When we can marry OUR love of planning/coordination with styling and design, we’re over the moon. Creating a wedding design is one of our favorite services we offer.  Sometimes a design idea hits us, and we aren’t able to implement it until the right couple comes along. Haley and Matt were that couple for us!

Haley & Matt actually had an intimate elopement in Hawaii about a year before this event. A few months following their private ceremony, they hosted a large reception in Minneapolis. This event was an opportunity to gather friends that were unable to attend either of the previous two celebrations. You could say that Haley and Matt were not ready to let the love-filled festivities come to an end. And we can’t blame them. Post-wedding planning depression is real!

Bringing this European countryside vineyard design with elements of rustic charm and vintage flair for Haley & Matt’s day to fruition was a dream come true (and in just three months too!). It isn’t often that we can truly take an idea and run with it. But the couple put all of their trust in us and told us to do as wish! So, from the suspended chandelier installation that we dreamed up to the elaborate cheese cake display, each element was created with the design theme in mind.  It was all about creating a unique ambiance with not-so-subtle European inspiration.

There is something to be said for intimate wedding receptions that don’t miss a detail. Sometimes the only way to get exactly what you want (design wise) is by pairing down your guest list. Since this was technically celebration number three, Haley & Matt wanted to host their guests at a venue that said “countryside cozy” with gorgeous decor and delicious food- which made Hope Glen Farm the perfect setting. With more than five vendors lending a hand in the food & dessert service, we knew that there would be something for everyone! And we had a stellar team assembled for decor too! Annie Berndt Designs created the most beautiful custom installations for reception decor,  Apres & A Vintage Touch had the perfect inventory for setting up the lounge areas and creating beautiful family style tables, and Lake Harriet Florist created jaw-droppingly beautiful garlands, Haley’s head wreath and wildflower inspired bouquet.

We’re so proud of how the wedding reception design of this event turned out. Plus, It was super laid-back and enjoyable for the couple. Putting everything in our hands meant that it was no-pressure, no-fuss, all-about-love event. Which, doesn’t always happen (but should). It was an incredible honor and oh so humbling to see their love story featured in the latest issue of The Knot Minnesota (insert giddy happy dance everytime we think about it)!

Light of Hope Gala

There are a handful of organizations that we, in both a professional and personal capacity, support. Light of Hope Kenya is one of them. If you aren’t familiar with this incredible organization, here is a quick overview:

“In a part of the world too often defined by poverty, there sits an oasis of optimism and faith. This is Light of Hope, a home and school for girls that provides for the needs of more than 60 Kenyan girls. Located on 15 acres in Naivasha, Kenya, Light of Hope exists to end the cycles of poverty, abandonment, and abuse for the young girls it serves.

Recognizing that education is the key to opportunity, Light of Hope offers quality schooling in a safe and secure, Christian environment where necessities such as food, medicine and clothing are provided.

The essence of Light of Hope lies in healing hearts and minds. Caregivers who offer guidance and emotional support surround the residents of Light of Hope, and teach important life skills like cooking, gardening, and self-care. These skills, in turn, enable the young girls of Light of Hope to embrace a future of self-sufficiency.

Refuge, Restoration, and Redirection: This is the Light of Hope”

We had the honor of coordinating and designing last year’s annual gala. This year, we have the honor to also MC the event! We’re ONE short week away from 15th annual The Light of Hope Gala! This year’s gala will be hosted on Saturday, March 11th from 5:30 PM-11:00 PM at Minneapolis Marriott Southwest.

We would be honored to have your support and presence for this year’s event. You can purchase your ticket here:

Be sure to like Light of Hope Kenya on Facebook for more updates!

Rosetree Wedding | Abbey & Robb’s Winter Wedding at Loews Hotel Mpls

Abbey and Robb’s big day was a modern wedding with a holiday twist, which we loved! We’re wild about Christmas, and hearing Abbey and Rob’s vision got us giddy! From the evergreen accents to the sequin bridesmaid dresses, this was one gorgeous winter wedding! The crazy thing is, this feels like it was yesterday. But it was actually last year!

We asked Abbey what the most memorial part of the day was for her. She said “We have known each other for so many years, and knew that our wedding was going to include a huge number of our mutual friends that we grew up with. Therefore, we had a goal of having this night be the ultimate dance party. We chose a venue that could accommodate our late-night wishes – our number one rule in choosing a venue was a place that would let us dance until 2:00 AM because we knew our friends would be up for the challenge. We found it in the Loews Hotel! The lighting and décor lent itself to the perfect late-night party atmosphere. Hands-down, our favorite memory was looking around at all of our friends and family tearing it up on the dance floor. We had an epic rendition of “Shout” including a packed dance floor, people doing the worm and other creative moves. By the end of the night, all the remaining dancers were doing hand-stands on the stage. We wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

We want to also say congratulations to the lovebirds for just celebrating their first wedding anniversary (even though they’ve actually been together since high school, it’s still worth celebrating!). Since we didn’t share these stunning images with you last December, what better time than right before Christmas?

Rosetree Wedding | Sally + Andrew

Now that the weather is starting to get chillier, we are dreaming of Sally + Andrew’s Hawaii-inspired wedding day at Sally’s family cabin in Emily, MN. Sally + Andrew were both born and raised in the Midwest, but decided to make a life-changing move to Maui, Hawaii in 2010 and have loved every second of it! Although they came back to Minnesota to get married, they knew they wanted to incorporate a few tropical touches into their wedding day. We love the clean colors of white and navy combined with their hints of Hawaiian flair. Sally + Andrew, congratulations once again, and we hope you are enjoying married life in Hawaii!

From Sally (the beautiful bride):

We met and began dating in 2006 at the University of Kansas. We were both born and raised in the Midwest, so after college graduation we decided to make a big change and try our luck at moving to Maui, Hawaii. We have been living in Maui since 2010 and have loved every second! Andy works at Kapalua Golf, and it was only fitting that he proposed on the most iconic Hole #5 of the Kapalua Bay Course on the Pacific Ocean at sunset.

We decided the place that was most special to both of us was my family cabin in northern Minnesota. We wanted the look to be crisp, clean, and with a touch of Hawaiian influence. We chose navy and white as our colors with beautiful white orchids and lush tropical greenery. Our Minnesota friends and family worked hard all summer getting the property perfect for our wedding day.

Planning a northern Minnesota wedding from the middle of the Pacific seemed like a daunting task, so I hired Rosetree Weddings & Events as our wedding planner and day-of coordinator. Rosetree helped provide recommendations of vendors, helped coordinate decor and rentals, and helped keep me on a timeline of what needed to be done.

I loved our ceremony. We wrote the entire thing ourselves after reading many ceremonies online. We had our family friend, Pete, marry us and it was a great blend of traditional vows, humor, fun music, and we even did a Hawaiian Lei exchange. We incorporated a few Hawaiian songs we love, “Honey Baby” by Three Plus, and had our friend, Joe, play “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the ukulele. The reception music was incredible. Our group loves to dance, and I don’t think we sat down once!

Rosetree Wedding | Gina + Scott

Gina + Scott were married on a perfect July day at the gorgeous Camrose Hill Flower Farm in Stillwater, MN. The lush greenery and floral was in full bloom, creating an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical! As we all know, Minnesota summers can be very hot and muggy, but that didn’t stop this couple from having a STUNNING outdoor ceremony, complete with white umbrellas for guests and an enormous eucalyptus garland as the ceremony backdrop. One thing Gina wanted most for her wedding was lots and lots of greenery – and it was everywhere, loves! We had greenery draped all over the place, hanging above the head table, as runners along the farm tables, adorning the Bride & Groom’s chairs at the head table, surrounding the wedding cake from Wuollet Bakery…seriously, it looked like a fairy tale! We added plenty of white pillar candles and crystals to complete the whimsical tone of the evening. Gina + Scott, we are honored to have been a part of your enchanting wedding day, and we hope you are enjoying your lives together as husband and wife and continued success in your lovely storefront Velvet Moon and Dog Threads!!

From Gina (the beautiful bride):
“If you want to take the pressure off of wondering if everything will go as planned and just enjoy your day, I would strongly suggest hiring Rosetree to plan your wedding. The money we spent on our venue and wedding planner was the best money we spent – well worth every penny. I love the photos as well and think everyone did a wonderful job making the day as magical as it was. It couldn’t have been more perfect for us.”

Rosetree Wedding | Shari + Andrew

Shari + Andrew’s wedding was so adorable! Held at the contemporary Minneapolis Central Library, their wedding day was full of sweet emotions and simplistic touches. One of our favorite parts of this wedding was the groom’s wooden bow tie! Paired with a denim undershirt and a succulent boutonniere, Andrew’s attire was both casual and incredibly stylish. Their wedding included gorgeous florals from Ashley Fox Designs, delicious sweets from Mon Petit Cheri, and live bluegrass music from Sawtooth Brothers, resulting in a very personalized wedding day that we will forever cherish. Congratulations Shari + Andrew, we loved working with you on your wedding plans!

Rosetree Wedding | Mona + Lorzone

Hello Loves! We are SO excited to share Mona + Lorzone’s special day with you. This wedding was too unique for words!! Inspired by music festivals, the bride and groom wanted to incorporate a celebratory ambiance that was outdoorsy, open and fun for their guests. Because of their eclectic style, they didn’t have a specific theme or color scheme planned, but instead they focused on making sure their guests felt important and loved. “We wanted them to feel like they were coming to a party, not our wedding,” Mona said to Style Me Pretty (did you know we were featured on SMP!? Read the full post here)! Their outdoor ceremony was held at the gorgeous Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, followed by a reception at one of the most unique venues we’ve had the pleasure of working at: Uppercut Boxing Gym (yes, really)!

Mona + Lorzone, we couldn’t have been more thrilled to work with you on your wedding plans. Your day was so unique and special, just like the people that you are, and we hope that you are enjoying your married life together! xo

From Mona (the BEAUTIFUL bride):

Our tastes in music, fashion, and lifestyle can be really eclectic so it was really hard trying to channel just one theme or style. We basically pulled our inspiration from everything we loved and because we didn’t have a certain theme or color scheme we were following, I wasn’t sure how everything was going to piece together. It really didn’t matter though. Ultimately, we wanted our wedding to reflect who we were and how important each of our attendees were to us (wedding party included!). We wanted them to feel like it was as much a part of their day as it was ours and focus on how their support for us really helped make our long distance relationship persevere.

We both love attending music festivals and were really inspired by them for our wedding. More so on ambiance than style elements. We wanted to bring that kind of outdoorsy, open, fun, and unified atmosphere we’ve experienced from the festivals by creating a celebratory vibe for our guests. We wanted them to feel like they were coming to their party, not our wedding. For this, we knew our main focus was going to be the venues, everything else would be secondary.

For our ceremony site, we went with the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. The greenery and the maze-like hedges gave us kind of a cool Alice in Wonderland feel, which we loved. The greenhouse also provided for a beautiful backdrop for our photos. For our reception venue, we wanted something with an open feel; something that didn’t feel too formal but had a unique style on its own and could really stand out devoid decorations. In addition to that, we needed a space large enough to accommodate 450-500 guests!

We had visited a few locations prior to the Uppercut Boxing Gym, and had a few more scheduled to view, but knew immediately that we would hold our reception there as soon as we walked in. The Boxing Gym is just such a cool space; and large! The exposed beams, the warehouse front, and graffitied courtyard really made it hard to pass. The venue is a statement on its own so we the rest of our décor followed quite nicely.

As much as our focus was on our guests and those around us, the times we had on our own, whether it was for photos or video shots, were still really special. Our first dance, actually, was quite nostalgic. It reminded me so much of the night we first met 8 years ago (9 years now)! We shared a dance the first night we met and just like our first wedding dance, everyone around us just kind of disappeared. For a short moment, it was just again, alone in the world. Moments like that are always so powerful and such a great testament to our faith.

All in all, the moments we shared with friends and family who traveled distances to celebrate with us; the smiles that were captured; knowing how hard our vendors worked and then seeing them out on the dance floor with everyone; the food; the love; the speeches; the perfect weather; the rip in my dress; the mishaps; and the 450 bodies that came in and out were all favorite moments that Lorzone and I will cherish forever. We will always live this night through and through with our video that Chris from Sky Focus Films captured so perfectly.

Rosetree Wedding | Andrea + Pete | Part 2 (Wedding)

We had so much fun helping Andrea & Pete with their wedding plans! The couple is from Utah, and they chose to have an outdoor destination wedding at Pinehurst Inn in Bayfield, Wisconsin. We love their simple yet whimsical style, which really came through in their flowers and personal decor! The bride loves organic wildflowers that grow along the side of the road, so we used that as inspiration for the bouquet and centerpieces. They also loved ribbons in the trees, so we incorporated that into their ceremony decor for a fun and unique touch. Andrea was such a laid-back bride, we loved helping her vision out for all guests to see.

Rosetree Wedding | Andrea + Pete | Part 1 (Rehearsal)

With so much focus on the wedding day, it can be pretty easy to forget about other events during the engagement, like the rehearsal! We loved Andrea + Pete’s pre-wedding celebration at Big Top Chautauqua, a non-profit performing arts tent theater overlooking Lake Superior. The couple and their guests are from Utah, so traveling to Minnesota was the perfect getaway for their wedding weekend!

The couple graciously provided their guests with dinner and drink tickets so they could enjoy some casual fare and ice-cold beer while waiting for the featured band, “Home Free”, to perform. The bride + groom mingled among the guests and had many awesome photo opportunities with friends and loved ones. We especially love the face cut-out boards they used to capture many funny moments! The overall atmosphere was very laid-back and fun, which is perfect for a rehearsal setting.

The evening was full of good food, great music, and wonderful people. While hosting this type of event is certainly not required, it’s a great opportunity for your guests to get to know each other, especially if many of them are from out of town. The key is to focus more on family and friends, and less on the details and decorations. Here are a few tips to create your own amazing (and stress-free) pre-wedding celebration for your guests!

Tip #1: Pick your date, time and location.
The first step in planning your welcome event is to decide when and where you are going to have it! Couples most often choose to have it the night before the wedding, but it all depends on when the majority of out-of-town guests will be arriving. A great idea is to have a welcome event after your rehearsal dinner, at a nearby bar, restaurant, park or other venue. When selecting a location, be sure to choose a venue that is big enough for your guests, has both seating and standing room, and some in-house decor to work with so you don’t have to bring all of it in on your own. Keep in mind that the atmosphere should be pretty laid-back, so make sure the timeline is relatively simple so guests can come and go as they please.

Tip #2: Choose your guest list.
Although there is no official rule of whom to invite to the welcome event, we recommend including all of your guests to celebrate with you. It gives the out-of town guests a chance to feel more “at home”, and it gives the local guests a chance to meet the out-of-towners, which results in a more intimate and friendly celebration on the day of the wedding! If inviting your entire guest list is out of budget, then we recommend sticking to out-of-town guests only, so the local guests don’t feel left out. When it comes to spreading the word about your pre-wedding celebration, we suggest including a separate card in your invitations, or adding something to your wedding website.

Tip #3: Serve light bites.

A&P002Since welcome events have a casual vibe, the food selections should be reflective of that as well. Try serving a few butler passed hors d’oeuvres, or have a nice embellishment table with a spread of fruits, meats and breads for guests to munch on. A fun option is to pair the drinks with the food (think mini burgers with a shot of craft beer), but you can also keep things classic with “his” and “hers” cocktails, or just beer and wine. We recommend having a few non-alcoholic options as well, such as lemonade, infused water or a refreshing spritzer.
